PSP40122 Certificate IV in Government

The Certificate IV in Government is a qualification aimed at the APS4-5 classification, or equivalent, and will develop the skills necessary for those who work in operational roles in the public service.  At this level, you will be engaging with stakeholders, dealing with conflicts, and be able to operate autonomously. 

This course will cover the operational skills that are common across all government departments and agencies and will help develop your knowledge and skills in the application of government processes. 

This qualification is ideal for people who are:

This course consists of four (4) required units and eleven (11) elective units:

Required Units:

• PSPETH006 – Uphold the values and principles of public service
• PSPGEN090 – Engage with stakeholders
• PSPGEN111 – Apply government processes
• PSPGEN114 – Work effectively with diversity and inclusion

Elective Units:

• BSBWHS311 – Assist with maintaining workplace safety
• PSPGEN094 – Provide input to change processes
• PSPGEN098 – Deal with conflict
• PSPGEN105 – Gather and analyse information
• PSPGEN106 – Conduct research and analysis
• PSPGEN108 – Use public sector financial processes
• PSPGEN113 – Exercise delegations
• PSPGEN126 – Monitor performance and provide feedback
• PSPGEN133 – Identify and treat risks
• PSPGEN140 – Use advanced workplace communication strategies
• PSPLEG006 – Encourage compliance with legislation in the public sector

Upon satisfactory completion of this course, course participants will be awarded with the PSP40122 Certificate IV in Government qualification. 

Satisfactory completion includes daily attendance of the course, completion of both classroom and individual assessment, and contribution towards discussions and group work. 

Classroom training is delivered over eleven (11) full days, generally over four blocks of training, within a 2-3 month period:

• Block 1 (3 days)
• Block 2 (2 days)
• Block 3 (3 days)
• Block 4 (3 days)

Course participants can attend this course in-person, on client site or on a Pro Leaders’ Training Centre, or virtually via live streaming.  Pro Leaders’ Training Centres can provide a blended approach that allows course participants to either attend the same course virtually or in-person.

For those with experience and/or related prior learning, we offer Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

Specific Requirements

Minimum of 12 months of Australian Government experience AND/OR holds a Certificate III in Government. 

General Requirements

Course participants must have a functional level of English and have the capacity for independent learning and group work.
