The Certificate III in Government is an entry-level qualification aimed at the APS3-4 classifications, or equivalent, that provides an introduction to the public service and will focus on the activities of this classification including responsible handling sensitive information, ability to carry out basic procurement, and addressing both internal and external client needs. 

This course will introduce a range of the more common legislation and policies that relates to the public service, and it will focus on creating an inclusive and diverse workplace.  It will prepare you for a career in the public service to understand how the public service work and the expectations of the public service workplace.

This course consists of four (4) required units and nine (9) elective units:

Required Units:

• PSPETH006 – Uphold the values and principles of public service
• PSPGEN096 – Use workplace communication strategies
• PSPGEN114 – Work effectively with diversity and inclusion
• PSPLEG005 – Comply with legislation in the public sector

Elective Units:

• BSBPMG430 – Undertake project work
• BSBWHS311 – Assist with maintaining workplace safety
• PSPGEN097 – Contribute to conflict management
• PSPGEN113 – Exercise delegations
• PSPGEN122 – Give and receive workplace feedback
• PSPGEN138 – Organise workplace information
• PSPGEN139 – Compose workplace documents
• PSPGEN145 – Work effectively in the organisation
• PSPPCM028 – Carry out basic procurement

Upon satisfactory completion of this course, course participants will be awarded with the PSP30122 Certificate III in Government qualification. 

Satisfactory completion includes daily attendance of the course, completion of both classroom and individual assessment, and contribution towards discussions and group work.

Classroom training is delivered over fourteen (14) full days, generally over seven blocks of training, within a 2-6 month period.

Course participants can attend this course in-person, on client site or on a Pro Leaders’ Training Centre, or virtually via live streaming.  Pro Leaders’ Training Centres can provide a blended approach that allows course participants to either attend the same course virtually or in-person.

For those with experience and/or related prior learning, we offer Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

There are no formal education requirements to enrol in the PSP30122 Certificate III in Government, making it an accessible opportunity for anyone looking to build a strong foundation in public sector work. While prior exposure to government operations may be beneficial, this qualification is designed to equip you with the essential skills and knowledge needed to thrive in a government role – regardless of your background.
